Ivory Coasting to Victory? Not so Burkina Fasso!
Alright, time to establish some house rules. First off, my ironic style of writing is not for the literal of hearted. If you want some dry match recaps, I suggest the always accurate ESPN. Second off, I am a blogger, not a journalist. My qualifications? I am a homo sapien with a computer. So if [...]
The World Cup Group of Death: Drogba the Reaper
The African Cup of Nations and World Cup draws have both ended. And I take from these events one unalterable and eternal truth: Didier Drogba is death.
Allow me to make my case.
In 2006, the Ivory Coast was drawn with Serbia, Argentina, and the Netherlands. Argentina had been knocked out of the 2002 [...]
Elephants v. Nigeria Preview
Today’s game features two African power houses when the IC faces off against
Nigeria. Both teams feature star studded lineups chock full of EPL talent. This really is one of the showpieces of the first round of the tournament. Contrasting styles of play see Nigeria as possession type team while
Cote d’Ivorie has more explosive potential. The [...]
New Elephants Blogger
My name is Gianfranco and though I am an avid Azzuri fan, I gained a huge amount of respect and admiration for Ivory Coast Football during the 06 World Cup. Even though the team went three and out I was completely amazed by their qualification and one Didier Drogba. I can’t wait to watch the

Myself and Cote d’Ivoire sign off with a win
Yesterday’s game between Cote d’Ivoire and Serbia&Montenegro turned out to be another classic with the Ivorians edging it 3-2 . Just when I thought the Ivorians where going home with no points, they turned the game on its head.
Like the other two games, the Ivorians went 2-0 down in the first 19 minutes courtesy [...]
Cote d’Ivoire V Serbia & Montenegro preview
Even though nothing is at stake for this match, I expect both teams to be up for this game.
Cote d’Ivoire will be without their main talisman Didier Drogba as he is suspended for the game, however I expect the fringe players such as Bakari Kone, Aruna Kone to put in a good performance [...]
Cote d’Ivoire have to play for pride in last group game
Cote d’Ivoire will be playing for pride when they take on Serbia & Montenegro tomorrow.
Even though they have been knocked out of the competition after slim losses to Argentina and Holland, the youthful Ivorian side who have won many admirers by their brand of football will be looking to win the game against [...]
Coach Henri Michel to step down after World Cup
Coach Michel, the much travelled Cote d’Ivoire manager is to step down from his post after the World Cup.
After the Elephants two losses in group C against Argentina and Holland, the Frenchman has admitted his contract is unlikely to be extended and the match against Serbia and Montenegro is likely to be his [...]
Cote d’Ivoire sent crashing out of the World Cup
Cote d’Ivoire were sent crashing out of the World cup after losing 2-1 to Netherlands in yet another thrilling match in Stuggart.
Two early goals from Robin Van Persie and Ruud Van Nilsterooy stunned the Ivorians.
Bakary Kone fired home a spectacular shot from the edge of the penalty area after a driving individual run [...]
Podcast: World Cup 2010 Group B Preview. "You hear that, Mr. Anderson?"
World Cup previews. They can be a bit dull and not particularly helfpul when it comes to predicting who will qualify from each group. One reason for this is that they focus too much on things like players and not enough on the really good things. Like quality of national [read more]
FIFA Has $1 Billion in Reserve Funds, But Still Doesn't Appreciate Clever Advertising
Two bits of news today. Read them both, and then decide for yourself whether the two are related.
The first story is that FIFA made a profit of $196 million in 2009, and now has a reserve cash fund of more than $1 billion. One billion dollars in the vault. Which makes FIFA sound a little like a Bond villain.
The second story is that FIFA have come down hard on South African budget airline kulula.com for what FIFA calls "ambush marketing". Basically, Kulula isn't an official World Cup sponsor, and as such is not allowed to suggest otherwise. Which makes perfect sense. However, Kulula - famous for its slightly left-field advertising campaigns - recently ran an ad in the South African Sunday Times newspaper on February 28th stating the airline was the "Unofficial National Carrier of the You-Know-What". The World Cup 2010 DJ Playlist (Musical Lineup)
(That kid immediately gets some sort of WCB Order of Merit.)
There's going to be a rather large party in South Africa this year. Some call it the World Cup.
But before there can be the real party, there must be another party beforehand. Because it's not really a party unless it's sandwiched by eight other parties of no importance whatsoever. And judging by the musical lineup for the World Cup pre-party, this will be no different. [read more]
FIFA World Cup 2026: Colombia!
There are many things which FIFA isn't very good at. One of them is putting anyone in the organization in front of a microphone, or allowing spilled words onto a page into the hands of the media. Another is running the world's football organization.
So FIFA, after handing this year's World Cup to the country with the second highest per capita murder rate, are looking to outdo themselves by sponsoring a World Cup bid by the world's most dangerous country, Colombia. Hip hip. [read more]

Bayern's Winning Streak Comes To A Shuddering Halt
This morning when I previewed the run-ins around Europe, I spent a bit less time on Germany, because at the time of my writing, Bayern were on a 19 game unbeaten run. Well, that's all over now, and the title race is on-on-on. Two late goals from Eintracht Frankfurt gave ...
