World Cup opponents take a good look at Cote d’Ivoire

February 15th, 2006 | By: Ade Lamidi | No Comments »

Cote d’Ivoire plays Argentina in a Group C match in Hamburg on June 10 but the Argentineans have already started doing their homework on the Elephants. They sent their assistant coach Hugo Tocalli to the African Cup of Nations to take a good look at Cote d’Ivoire.

Hugo Tocalli had a different view to the one he had when the draw was made last December when he said, “Ivory Coast attack a lot and don’t defend very much.”

However six games in Egypt later, he was alerted to a different Cote d’Ivoire team that defend deep and look to attack quickly, in one two passes thereby setting free their dangerous strikers.

Cote d’Ivoire are counter-attack specialists and their style of play is totally different from that of the Argentineans who look to have a lot of possession as possible, dictate the tempo of the game and pass their way through the opposition.

The contrast in styles should make the June 10 encounter interesting, with the counter attacking specialists going up against the attacking specialists.

What a match in prospect….
