Hernan Crespo is scared of Didier Drogba and Cote d’Ivoire

June 4th, 2006 | By: Ade Lamidi | 8 Comments »

Interesting to hear that Argentina forward Hernan Crespo is scared of Chelsea team mate Didier Drogba and the Cote d’Ivoire team.

Well I can understand the Argentine being scared of ‘The Drog’ since they both had to compete for the striking role in the Chelsea team.

But why would he be scared of the Cote d’Ivoire team?

Any ideas?

i suppose because the côte d’ivoire is the african vice-champion and because it is a team not to be taken lightly.

côte d’ivoire vs. argentina 3:2 is my guess — see you in the final!

“Interesting to hear that Argentina forward Hernan Crespo is scared of Chelsea team mate Didier Drogba and the Cote d’Ivoire team.”

Interesting to see that this is an utterly unfounded post about nothing. Crespo, one of the most eloquent players I have seen interviewed, would certainly show respect for Drogba and the Ivorians, as would any other member of the Argentina team. But being “scared”!?!? Get serious, Ade.

crespo never expressed his fear to the media officially, it was just between two friends or colleagues but drogba seems to be taking it to his head. drogba & co must be taught a lesson by our monster TEVEZ for thinking of booting argentina from the tournament. crespo is far better & experienced compared to drogba for the world cup.

It is quite easy and there arer many reasons why Ivory Coast may make it through to second round.

Drogba is a massive striker who can dominate any defence.
Kolo Toure is a powerful defender and can marshall an impregnable defence.
His brother is a great midfielder. And Eboue is one of the best attacking defenders since Garrincha. This means they have solid foundations up and down the team.

Crespo is right to be scared of these players. We will just have to wait to see if he should be scared of the team.

When Ivory Coast comes to mind, the common fan only mentions 3 players: Drogba, Toure and Eboue. That doesn’t go without reason, because they are the 3 players that are enjoying mainstream success. What makes them so dangerous is that they have players as superior as Drogba that noone takes note of.

Arthur Boka in my opinion is even more dangerous than Eboue, on the left defensive flank. Yaya Toure and Didier Zokora are also big threats in the midfield with both defensive and offensive flair. It’s going to be a great World Cup for the Ivorians.

If they get out of the G.O.D, then you know they can get as far as the semis.

In paper, Argentina is a better team. But Ivory Coast has players in forward and midfield positions who can match Argentinian players in technical qualities. Their ace striker drogba is a first choice at Chelsea. Chelsea’s famous coach Maurinho thinks Drogba is a better striker than Crespo. So, on most occassions Drogba plays for chelsea, while Crespo sits in the bench and watch Drogba playing. Drogba, Dindane, Kalou, Toure are all world class players. Their only weakness is in the left flank of defence. Boka and Meite/Kouassi are the weak spots in the team. They don’t have a good goalkeeper either. Toure and Eboue are young, but are great defenders playing on the right flank as shown in Champions league matches for Chelsea. Ivory Coast players technically are as good as players from Argentina. But Argentina still has a better chance of winning this match because Africans lack a good strategy, organization and discipline. Africans very often have shown that they are their own worst enemies. There are good chances that one or two Ivory Coast players will be shown red card in this match. So, I think that Argentina will probably win, but don’t think Argentinian players are technically superior. That’s only an illusion and wishful thinking.
