Egypt to face Cote d’Ivoire in Nations Cup final without star striker

February 8th, 2006 | By: Ade Lamidi | No Comments »

Egyptian star striker Mido has been thrown out of the squad and suspended for six months after a row with manager Hassan Shehata.

He had a heated argument with the manager after being substituted during the semi-final match against Senegal. He will now miss the Nations Cup Final against Cote d’Ivoire on Friday.

This will be a bitter blow to the Egyptian team with the final only a few days away.

But you would think that a professional player like Mido will know better. A manager makes changes during a game for the good of the team and players need to respect that decision.

Ironically, Amr Zaki who replaced Mido scored his team’s winner to beat Senegal.
