Drogba goal sinks Nigeria

February 7th, 2006 | By: Ade Lamidi | 1 Comment »

Star striker Didier Drogba scored early in the second half to beat Nigeria 1-0 and book Cote d’Ivoire’s place in the African Nations Cup Final on Friday.

A long ball over the top escaped Nigerian defender Joseph Enakhire who misjudged the flight of the ball to leave Didier Drogba is acres of space to slot the ball past Nigerian keeper Vincent Enyeama.

In a tightly contested match, both sides created chances but a lapse in concentration in the Nigerian defence cost them the game in the end.

Nigeria brought on Jay-Jay Okocha, early in the second half and he came close to scoring from his set piece free kicks.

He wasn’t able to make the difference in what will be his last international match for his country.

Good to see Nigeria go down. Enough of this talk about the Super Eagles deserving to be in the World Cup! Best of luck to the Elephants in the final.
