Drogba acts as peacemaker

Cote d’Ivoire and Chelsea star Didier Drogba made a plea for peace in his country earlier today after four days of riots between the local mob and UN and French peacekeepers.
Drogba was quoted as he prepared for his country’s opener against Morocco, “I am an Ivorian footballer and I ask for just one thing – that’s peace in my country.” He went on to say that “I am not here to take up a position and say who’s right and who’s wrong. I’m like all the Ivorian citizens who dream only of one thing – for calm to return.”
The current crisis where caused after a recommendation by foreign mediators to dissolve national parliament dominated by those loyal to current president Laurent Gbagbo, who threatened to derail UN peace plan to foresee elections by the end of October.
The current situation in the country will put more pressure on the Ivorian squad who would now take it upon themselves to do well in the Nations Cup knowing that such success would bring a much-needed feel good factor back home.
