Cote d’Ivoire World Cup friendlies announced

March 25th, 2006 | By: Ade Lamidi | No Comments »

Oh well, I am currently holidaying in the beautiful country of Luxemborg this weekend and Germany the venue for the World Cup is just across the border. My host tells me three German cities hosting the World cup matches Frankfurt, Kaiserslautern and Cologne are not too far away. So I am that close to where the action will be happening in June.

Anyhow to the more serious matter of blogging, Cote d’Ivoire will play Switzerland, Chile and Slovenia in friendlies before the World Cup in June it has been announced.

The Ivorians, runners-up at the African Nations Cup, will play fellow World Cup finalists Switzerland in Basle on May 27.

They then play Chile in Vittel on May 30 and Slovenia at Evry-Bondoufle in the Paris region on June 4.

The Ivorian squad would depart for Germany on June 9, the day before they play Argentina in their Group C match in Hamburg.

These opponents should give the Cote d’Ivoire good preparation for the World Cup and Chile, Slovenia, Switzerland should have playing styles similar to Argentina, Serbia and Montenegro and Holland respectively.

I am looking forward to the matches.
