Cote d’Ivoire sneak win against Morocco

January 21st, 2006 | By: Ade Lamidi | No Comments »

Didier Drogba scored from the penalty spot to secure a 1-0 after Cote d’Ivoire were awarded a controversial penalty in their opening Group A African Nations cup game against Morocco. The Elephants were awarded the penalty after Drogba was adjudged to have been brought down by Moroccan defender Walid Regragui. However, television replays showed that the initial contact was outside the box.

Didier Drogba scored from the penalty spot with an angle low shot into the left-hand corner to beat Moroccan keeper Tarik El-Jarmouni who guessed right but was unable to get his hand on the ball.

Cote d’Ivoire play their next group match against Libya on Tuesday.
