Cote d’Ivoire make hard work of Libya

January 24th, 2006 | By: Ade Lamidi | No Comments »

Cote d’Ivoire beat Libya 2-1 with goals from Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure. Cote d’Ivoire started well but sat on their lead and allowed Libya, one of the weakest teams in the tournament back into the game. At 1-1, Libya with good footwork nearly went ahead, but a scrappy goal mouth incident allowed Yaya Toure a free controlled header in the box to edge this group match 2-1.

Cote d’Ivoire will have to be more ruthless in front of goal when they play Egypt in the last group match. They wasted a lot of chances in this match and a better team could easily have punished them.

However, this result should see them through to the quarterfinals whatever the result against Egypt. They have six points from two matches and lead the group at this stage.
