Brothers might clash in World Cup Finals

February 16th, 2006 | By: Ade Lamidi | 1 Comment »

The ongoing court saga between Ivorian-born Salomon Kalou and the Dutch law authorities took another twist yesterday. The Council of State, the nation’s highest body for administrative law upheld the lower court rulings which had rejected Salomon’s initial request for Dutch citizenship.

The Dutch Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk must now review Salamon’s application leaving him the possibility of playing for Holland in the World Cup Finals wide open.

Salomon’s elder brother Bonaventure already plays for the Cote d’Ivoire national team so there is also a possibility that if Salamon is granted an ‘accelerated naturalization’, they will face each other when Cote d’Ivoire take on Holland in Stuggart on 16 June.

That would surely be the first time a set of brothers will play against each other at international level.
